Christ the Redeemer-
Nearly everyone knows of the big statue of Christ on the hill in Rio, but that is where their knowledge ends. The "Christ the Redeemer" statue is 38 metres tall, and is struck by lighting several times a year. Even with the lightning rods inside of it to hopefully lessen the damage, they sometimes don't do much help. The statue constantly needs refurbishing, to fix up the chunks of the reinforced concrete that have been blown off by the lightning. Construction started on it in 1922, and was finished in 1931.
