Megacities are metropolitan areas, with a population of over 10 million people. There is currently 27 of these cities in the world, and that number that is sure to grow over time. These suburban areas always end up with the same sort of problems as each other, such as over-population, severe pollution, and environmental damage. Many of their smallest concerns though, we would consider horrific scenarios. It can take up to several hours to get to work of a morning for the civilians living there, hours to travel less than 10 kilometres. In some Megacities it is faster to walk to work than it is to drive.
However, many of the cities have come up with effective solutions to these challenges, such as;
TRAFFIC CONGESTION
- Use city planners
-Encourage the use of public transport
-Build more infrastructure for cars (more routes so
traffic spreads)
OVER-POPULATION
- Encourage contraception methods
-Make people aware of "Family Planning"
-Further Education about reproduction
ENVIRONMENTAL DAMAGE
- Create tree-farms, to counter de-forestation
-Use more Eco-Cars
-Encourage walking, bicycle riding
-Encourage the use of public transport
POLLUTION
- Treat water
-Raise awareness
-Increase green-space (e.g. parks)
